Alumni Spotlight – Mónica Adriana Martínez Córdoba

We recently asked alumna Mónica Adriana Martínez Córdoba to tell us what she has been doing since leaving the program, and what some of her fondest memories were from her time teaching in the United States. Read below for Monica’s responses!

Reflecting on her experience teaching in the U.S.

Q: What grade level did you teach?
A: I taught first grade.

Q: What school(s) did you teach at?
A: I taught at Harnett Primary School in Harnett County, North Carolina, and Antioch Elementary in Union County, North Carolina.

Q: What inspired you to apply to teach in the U.S.?
A: I wanted to share my culture and my passion in order to show my students that the language can open minds and paths.

Q: What did you enjoy most about your time teaching in the U.S.?
A: What I enjoyed most about my time teaching in the U.S. was listening to my kids speaking and singing in Spanish!

What life looks like after returning home

Q: Where are you now? Are you living in your home country, another country, or did you go somewhere else?
A: I am in my home country of Colombia, in the state of Medellín, specifically Antioquía.

Q: Are you currently teaching? If not what else are you doing?
A: Yes, I am currently teaching at two different institutions in Colombia. I also work as a translator.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your family! Do you have a spouse and/or children?
A: I love my family, I am married to a pediatrician and we have two beautiful cats: Mia and Coco!
