Participate Learning Recognized as a Visionary Leader by the North Carolina Sustainable Business Council

Recognition highlights Chapel Hill-based education company’s dedication to sustainability and contributions to North Carolina’s environmental and economic health

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Feb. 1, 2024 — Participate Learning, a leader in providing education solutions to K-12 schools, has received an Outstanding Service Award for Visionary Leadership from the North Carolina Sustainable Business Council (NCSBC). This award recognizes the organization and CEO David Young for seeing beyond short-term, market-driven actions, demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable business practices and serving as a role model for others.

“It is an honor to be recognized alongside other North Carolina sustainability leaders,” Young said. “Our greatest sustainability impact can be found in the teaching philosophy and practices of our partner teachers. Across all of our partnerships, teachers help students to develop real-world competencies and skills that empower learners to take action in their communities.”

This marks the seventh year that the NCSBC has honored North Carolina’s most sustainable and forward-thinking businesses. All winners were evaluated on several key points, including a demonstrated record of:

  • Contributing to the environmental health of North Carolina through sustainable environmental practices
  • Striving to be a good citizen of the state through fair and beneficial business practices
  • Contributing to the overall economic health of North Carolina
  • Using its voice and influence to advance equitable economic policies that benefit all businesses in the state

In addition to its work in K-12 schools and as a Certified B Corporation that balances profit and purpose, Participate Learning further strives to meet sustainability goals by reducing its environmental impact as an organization. The company’s overarching Green Office Policy addresses waste management, energy conservation, remote work, and charitable outreach initiatives.
