Calling all Participate Learning Ambassador Teachers and U.S. partner teachers!

We are pleased to announce the opening of our 2023 Teacher of the Year awards! This year, we would like to recognize three teachers within the Participate Learning Network who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to their students, school communities, and our shared mission of uniting our world through global learning.

 

The 2023 Teacher of the Year award is open to:

  1. All Participate Learning Ambassador Teachers
  2. U.S. teachers in partner schools that are implementing our Participate Learning Global Leaders framework and/or Dual Language Programs

 

Applicants should demonstrate their passion for sharing global perspectives in their classrooms and their dedication to the Participate Learning mission by:

  • Being an ambassador of cultures
  • Embodying the global competencies
  • Sharing impact on students, colleagues, and beyond
  • (For dual language teachers) Implementing the dual language teaching practices in accordance with your school’s specified mode

Eligibility

Ambassador Teachers

  • All applicants must be registered users of the Participate platform and members of at least one Participate Learning community of practice.
  • All applicants must be active 1st–5th term teachers during the current 2022-23 school year.
  • All applicants must be in good standing as J-1 visa holders with Participate Learning.
  • Applicants in their 1st–4th terms must be planning to renew their teaching commitment for the 2023-24 school year.

U.S. Partner Teachers

  • All applicants must be registered users of the Participate platform and members of at least one Participate Learning community of practice.
  • All applicants must be currently teaching in a partner school that is implementing the Participate Learning Global Leaders framework and/or a Dual Language Program.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in K-12 classrooms.
  • Applicants must intend to renew their teaching commitment at their current school for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Applicants must be in good standing at their school and district.

Timeline

The timeline for applications and all award announcements is as follows:

  • Applications Open – Monday, March 6, 2023
  • Applications Close – Sunday, April 9, 2023
  • Finalist Notifications – Finalists will be notified on or before Thursday, April 20, 2023.
  • Finalist Interviews – Each finalist will participate in an interview during the week of April 26 – May 3, 2023.
  • Award Winner Celebrations – Announcements and award presentations will take place after May 22, 2023.

Awards Package

Winners of the Participate Learning 2023 Teacher of the Year awards will receive:

  • $1,000 check
  • Laptop computer
  • Commemorative framed certificate, plaque, or trophy

 

During their one-year reign as a 2023 Participate Learning Teacher of the Year, winners will commit to continuing their efforts to unite our world through global learning and to modeling this for others.

 

Winners may also have opportunities to:

  • Engage in professional development experiences.
  • Present at summits, conferences, or other virtual and/or live events.
  • Receive sponsorships for presenting at conferences or other events.
  • Share experiences and expertise with the Participate Learning network.

Application Instructions

All application materials must be submitted by midnight on Sunday, April 9, 2023 in order to be eligible for consideration. This includes:

  1. The completed application form
  2. A recommendation letter from Principal or Assistant Principal
  3. A 5-10 minute video clip from a global lesson you planned and implemented with your students.
  4. A Student Work and Global Look and Feel Portfolio (in the form of a slideshow, video compilation, Google doc, etc.). This portfolio must include:
  • Text, photos, and/or videos that show evidence of teaching, learning, and student work that illustrate:
    -How you integrate and model the global competencies–and how students demonstrate them
    -The integration of the SDGs, current events, and other global issues into the curriculum
    -An emphasis on the importance of learning about and appreciating different cultures
    -The positive impact you and your students have on the world–locally and beyond
    -A global look and feel in your classroom
